How to Create a Wordpress Blog For Beginners

We will be looking at steps to set up a wordpress blog;

If you read my last article, you discover at the last paragraph I mentioned something about creating a wordpress blog. Yes that's right! We are going to be creating a wordpress blog for your business. Okay!

Did I hear you ask, Why wordpress blog? Why not blogger or other ones? Well, these are the reasons why;

1. Wordpress offers a very powerful content management system with free funtionality.

2. Wordpress is easy to install as many hosting sites now provide the ability to install wordpress blog just with the single click of a mouse.

3. Managing a wordpress blog is very easy like adding content including text, videos, pictures, etc seem so  easy.

4. Wordpress blog are search engine friendly.

So those are the reasons why a wordpress blog is better than the other ones and the preffered choice of so many top internet marketers!

Another thing which I need to talk about here before moving ahead is to tell you that there are two{2} different types of WordPress blog:

1) http://www.wordpress.com(free)
2) http://www.wordpress.org(paid)

1) http://www.wordpress.com can host your site on the internet for free and this is what is often referred to as open source software. This basically means that it is freely available to anyone for use and modify.

The main disadvantage to this is that you get very limited space and customization options and it cannot be monetized. This means that you cannot have any affiliate
advertisements on your blog.

Also, bear in mind that technically, you do not actually own a blog which is hosted by WordPress essentially they own the blog and if your blog is taken down for whatever reason, that's it, everything on your blog will be lost.

2) However, http://www.Wordpress.org provides the software you'll need to create your blog but does not host it for you. For this you will be required to purchase a domain name and host your site on any web hosting service of your choice. This is far more flexible and there are many more options available to you.

If you are a serious internet marketer and are looking to earn a living online, you should really be thinking of getting your own domain name and hosting and that is what we are going to go through in this guide.

Without much ado, let's get started into creating a blog; I'll do my best to make it as easy as possible for you!

I strongly recommend for starters/beginners that you purchase a hosting plan that provides both domain name registration and web-host service together more like a 2-in-1 package instead of having to buy separately. There are so many hosting sites that provides these multiple service on the web like Ipage, by so doing you're avoiding the streinous process of having to buy domain and hosting separately. Cool isn't it?

So when you purchase an Ipage hosting plan, one of the best and reliable hosting sites around they make installing your wordpress blog so! so! easy!!! This helps takes the headache off you.

With Ipage and simple script, installing wordpress has become so easy that even a newbie can do it without any professional assistance at all. I kid you not!

After that, the next thing is to log-in to your hosting account{which has been sent to you upon purchase}, navigate to your control panel and then look for the simple script icon. Double click it, follow some easy setup instructions and woo-lah! You've actually installed your blog and ready to start customization!

However after purchasing the hosting plan an email will be sent to you from them, make sure you keep those information for future purposes. They'll contain informations such as your username, password, name-servers, etc...

The next thing is to start customizing your blog by getting a theme. A theme is a template designed specifically for use to enhance the visual appearance and usability of a blog.

There are free wordpress theme and also premium ones{I mean the one you pay for} depending on your pocket and taste, you might want to go for anyone!

Here are some cool free wordpress themes sites to visit;
www.wordpressthemesbase
www.freewpthemes.net
www.themesplice.com
www.freethemelayouts.com

But if you decide to go for the paid ones{premium}, I strongly recommend thesis theme specifically made for beginners who know little or nothing about HTML or coding, It's the best of all themes.

With thesis customizing your wordpress blog is like eating "pizza" unlike the other themes{free/paid} where in-order to take your blog to the next level you'll need some basic knowledge of HTML or css, but for thesis you absolutely don't need any coding at all. Perfect for beginners! Check out thesis theme now!

Lastly, you'll need to optimize your wordpress blog after you've successfully installed and set up your blog. Search engine optimization is a good way to help getting your blog in front Google and other major search engines.

The good thing is that SEO is one of the free ways of driving huge traffic to your new blog. If you do it right, you'll reap the benefits.

I'll like to touch on some areas regarding the settings of your blog which could be helpful to the SEO of your newly created blog. The settings will done in the dashboard of your wordpress blog once you have logged in. They are as follows;

Step1; Look for the settings tab at the extreme left of the dashboard, click on general. Change the following;

Blog title; This is where you enter your blog title, make sure the blog title is related to your domain name for instance, if your domain name is http://www.fishforsale.com then your title should be "Fish for sale" or "Fish for sale today". Not clear yet? Okay! Look at my blog @ http//:www.makemoneyonline2dy.com, when you compare it with it's title @ "make money online today for beginners" are they not related?

Tagline; This is where you enter your blog description.

Email-address; This is where you enter your email address.

Step2; Look for the writing tab and click it, go straight to the update services section and enter following ping sites;

http://www.ping.feedburner.com
http://www.ping.syndic8.com/xmlrpc.php
http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping
http://rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2

These sites will be "pinged" each time you update your blog. They offer pinging services.

Step3; Look for the reading tab and click it, you may want to make the following changes;

Blog pages; Change this to 5.

Syndication feeds; Change this also to 5 and check the summary text button. That's all!

Step4; Look for the discussion tab, below the reading tab and click it. Make the following changes;

Email me whenever; Check the two boxes infront that's if it has not been checked by default already.

Before a comment appears; It is also advicable you check the two boxes infront as well.

Comment moderation; Check this box as well this means that any comment that contain links should be held for moderation. Very important!

Step5; Look for the permalinks tab below and click it, make the following changes;

Select the custom structure setting as against the default one, after you've done that enter the following information into the empty bar; /%postname%/ and click save. That's all there is to it!
